Polk County will put the decision of whether to borrow $350 million to expand the Des Moines International Airport on the Nov. 7 ballot.
The county board's unanimous vote Tuesday morning follows the airport's request to the county to issue general obligation bonds to help fund the first phase of the new terminal at $445.4 million. The dsmairport authority can authorize its own aviation revenue bonds, but the interest rate on the county bonds would be lower.
With inflation, the project has faced construction cost increases. The budget that the Des Moines Airport Authority approved in July for the first phase of the new terminal is up $34 million from last year's estimates.
