In a landmark moment, BioRescue Project, the team behind the effort to save northern white rhinos from extinction, has just announced that it will be partnering with Colossal Biosciences, the world’s first de-extinction company working to bring back species like the woolly mammoth, the dodo, and the thylacine. Through its cutting-edge genetic technology, Colossal hopes to piece together the missing links of the northern white rhinos’ genetic history by leveraging genome sequencing and gene editing methods from museum samples of the species from the past.
