It's
#WorldRhinoDay, so let's
#unscienceananimal and look at what makes a rhinoceros, a rhinoceros.
From their big badonkadonks, to their unicorn horns, rhinoceroses are pretty neat animals. They're the second largest land mammal in the world, second to elephants. The word rhinoceros even means "nose horn" in ancient Greek.
And despite those big nose horns... and their built-in ring ring toss game, these creatures are not as stabby as they look! Rhinoceroses are herbivores and rarely aggressive unless provoked.
Sadly, rhinoceros are greatly threatened by illegal wildlife trade. The Center works to save global biodiversity ā including rhinos ā by using U.S. and international law to hold governments accountable for protecting imperiled species wherever they're found.
