There’s so much more to Japan than Tokyo, Kyoto, and Fuji. And there’s more to Hokkaido than pow days. For a country roughly the size of Montana, there’s an immense diversity to the landscapes, the cultures, and offerings. I found myself right at home in Hokkaido, Japan’s second largest island and also the least populated. From Hokkaido’s tallest mountains in Daisetsusan National Park to the agricultural plains of Tokachi, this trip had me feeling like I was back in Montana (until I was served up fresh sushi and insane ramen).
