In 2013 I purchased my first @thegivingkeys. I selected “strength” because I was buried in hardship and heaviness. My 10 year old boy was in the midst of crisis, struggling with depression. And I was struggling trying to learn how to parent a child with mental illness. Every day was a day filled with fear. Could I keep him safe? . As a writer and thus a word lover, I loved the idea of wearing a word that would serve as both a reminder and a mantra. And then learning this company also used proceeds from purchases to give people transitioning out of homelessness jobs - that made my heart even more full. . I’ve worn that ‘strength’ key almost every day for the last four years, until it recently broke. It will be replaced. But the original, my first key, will find its way to a special shadow box to remind me of this journey and the strength both my son and I have found while on it. .
