All I want is to be a leader.
So says this week's
#FirstieFriday, C1C Wesley Park.
Wesley is the first to serve in the
@usairforce, though his grandfather served in the South Korean military.
The systems astronautical engineering major has been a member of the Ethics in Engineering team, served as DO for Guts squadron during Basic Cadet Training and was recently Group 4 Cadet Commander.
His advice to cadets: Be the change you want to see.
As an aspiring leader, Wesley says he’s learned a lot from Group 4 Commander Col. Tammy Schlichenmaier. He says watching her make decisions and lead is humbling and has shown him the path to becoming a successful leader.
He also turns to a quote from Gen. Daniel “Chappie” James, “The power of excellence is overwhelming. It is always in demand, and nobody cares about its color.”
Wesley says, “To me it means value comes from excellence, and not bloodlines. I am proud of my Korean heritage, but I hope to be judged on my excellence.”
