Cadets gave first responders from Custer County Search and Rescue a rousing round of applause last week - recognizing them for their life-saving rescue of a cadet.
Last spring several cadets were hiking in southern Colorado when one lost his footing and fell over 200 feet down a steep embankment. His fellow cadets called for help and Custer County personnel were among those who safely reached the cadet, provided critical medical care and got him to a hospital.
The cadet involved in the accident is continuing his recovery at home after an extended stay in the hospital and treatment and rehabilitation at a VA medical center.
Community partnerships are vital to the Academy - from supporting our military members and families to responding to emergencies on and off base. We appreciate the relationships we have with agencies and organizations across the Colorado Springs area.
