#FirstieFriday this week is a Durham, North Carolina native, Cadet Squadron 5 commander and the Academy Women’s Rugby team captain 2 years in a row.
C1C Sarah Layne hails from a military family as her grandfather served as an Army Air Corps maintainer, her father was an Army policeman and her sister is an Army 2nd Lieutenant.
Layne explains that her sister inspired her to attend a service academy after Layne saw her become a 2nd Lieutenant through the United States Military Academy. She wanted to be around people who share her drive to serve others.
She says that bonding with her squad-mates at football games, spending time with her rugby teammates during away game road trips and helping with BCT for the Class of 2026 are her best memories of her time here.
She’s also had her fair share of athletic opportunities including serving as the starter on the Academy’s national championship-winning rugby team her freshman year, attending a national team selection camp at Chula Vista El...
