Congratulations Class of 2024 on your choice of Class Exemplar. Maj. LeRoy W. Homer Jr., Class of ‘87, graduated pilot training and earned his wings in 1988. For the next several years he served with honor and distinction flying the C-141 Starlifter in the Gulf War and in humanitarian missions in Somalia. After achieving the rank of Major, he continued his flying career with United Airlines. On September 11th, 2001 First Officer Homer was at the controls on Flight 93. When four Al-Qaeda terrorists attempted to hijack the plane, Homer was the first to fight back, sending mayday calls to ATC. He, along with 39 other Americans, revolted against the hijackers and in the struggle, the flight crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. They united together under incredible pressure to win the first battle of the war on terror. Homer’s life of service, honor, and bravery will be an example to the Class of ‘24 through the Academy and beyond. #neverfogotten #wingmen #youracademy
