November 9 will mark the 50th Anniversary of the day Capt. Lance P. Sijan was shot down over North Vietnam. Follow along as we highlighting his life and sacrifice this week. A '65 Academy grad, he is the only grad to receive the Medal of Honor. After being shot down he evaded capture for more than six weeks and was then held as a POW at the Hanoi Hilton, dying in January 1968 after months of torture. Sijan's will to survive with honor was an inspiration to other POWs during the dark days of the Vietnam War.
