Wizards of —- West Rogers Park?
Located off the Red Line’s Morse stop, Malliway Brothers Magic sells everything from cauldrons to animal bones. For identifying witches, Sunday nights are a “call to the coven,” allowing participants to empower objects, recite spells and practice magic rituals.
“I think that’s the prettiest part of it,” store owner Wycke Malliway said. “Especially since we’re in Chicago, where it’s such a potluck of people, you get that potluck of magic.”
Store owners Wycke and Blake Malliway opened with the intention of fostering a community of outcast witches. For people like Monica Gamez, the shop has done just that.
“The more I started looking for it, I was like, ‘I like this, I like witchcraft,’” Gamez said. “Then I found the Malliway brothers and I started attending their courses and rituals and I was like, ‘This is it, this is where I belong.’”
