Thanks to student activism on campus, what began as a temporary installation in 2009 became a permanent fixture, The Chicano Legacy Mural, located on the side of Peterson Hall in Marshall College. Mexican-American and Latinx students, driven by a deep desire to represent their culture on campus, spearheaded the creation of a vibrant 17 by 54-foot mosaic mural. Crafted by artist Mario Torero, this masterpiece bursts with color and cultural symbolism reminiscent of Chicano Park murals. The mural celebrated Chicano Park's 40th anniversary, paying homage to cultural leaders like César Chávez and Dolores Huerta, and connects the university to its Latino community roots.
