The three F’s •Flight •Freeze •Fooling around These are the different responses from horses when the horse can not cope with the task at hand. The first two are very common and widely acknowledge. But often the third one is missed, when the horse plays the class clown and does silly things. The most common one I find is when a horse starts pulling faces. But there is a reason for this, •The horse needs to release his jaw. •His hyoid •His TMJ Often these horses need to relearn to swallow roll their tongue and have the freedom of the movement. Cross their jaws and yawn. A loose noseband or no noseband would be ideal. A very quiet bit that rolls on the tongue would be a good option. Straight preferred. Finding the right bit is another story ⁃ When I feel brave enough, I start that subject. ⁃ Let's just say, for now, the most common bit at the moment is not always the best or kindest option.
