I have met more diverse students in my 4 years here than I have in my entire life. Q: What do you think individuals can do to develop a sense of inclusion and belonging in the VU community? A: I have this model I came up with called the three Hs of community change. There’s “heart work,” “hand work,” and “head work.” Heart work speaks to how you can care differently, hand work speaks to what are you doing differently, and the head work speaks to how are you thinking differently. Collectively I think people have to make a concerted effort to do the work in those areas. Additionally, people have to go and do the research.
