Meet ReChard Peel, Program Coordinator in the Office of Inclusion Initiatives and Cultural Competence.

Q: What exactly is the OIICC?
A: We do diversity and inclusion work on campus, directed at students mostly. We also advise multicultural organizations, and do trainings on cultural competence.
Q: How did you get started over there?
A: I’ve been working there 2 years now – I started in June 2017. I have a masters degree in Student Affairs from Grand Valley State University. After I got my masters degree I did a search for institutions that I wanted to work at, and Vanderbilt was on the list.
Q: Why did you choose to come to Vanderbilt?
A: [This job] was a good match for me. The work I’m doing is something I’m really passionate about, and the team is great - I have a great supervisor. When I came and interviewed it felt like a good fit.
Q: Are you from Tennessee?
A: I’m from Gary, Indiana. The last 2 years has been my first time living down south.
