To kick off
#WomensHistoryMonth, we’re honoring Margaret Branscomb, the wife of former Chancellor Harvie Branscomb.
Serving as President of the Vanderbilt Garden Club during her husband’s tenure, Branscomb was responsible for spearheading several projects that transformed the landscape of Vanderbilt’s campus. One of these projects included creating the magnolia screen that lines campus along West End and 21st avenues. If it wasn’t for Branscomb, Vanderbilt wouldn’t be the beautiful oasis that it is today, and we’re thankful for the contributions that women have made to our university over the years.
A statue of Margaret Branscomb can be found next to Benson Hall.
