Officially a year now since my back surgery. As much as I recall the ongoing support around me, I also recall those who were hoping I would leave the industry. They would try to sound encouraging, but at the same time they’ve never supported a thing I’ve done. (Pro Tip: these people never go away, they will always be there) So I just smiled and responded, “I appreciate the input.” :) Physical. Mental. Emotional. These three things will always be part of your everyday life in this industry. Now add being a woman of color and presto: you’re in the thick of it. After everything I’m still standing. I’m still here. I’m still moving forward.
