Drop a 😩 if you were ever told you couldn’t do something because of your gender.   You’re not alone. Every society and culture have expectations on how we’re supposed to act, speak, dress and behave based upon our assigned sex. For example, women are expected to be accommodating and nurturing where men are expected to be strong and confident. Women are supposed to take care of the home, while men take care of the finances.   These gender norms are taught and established early, resulting in many types of inequalities between girls and boys that have a profound impact on childhood to adulthood – from health and education to marriage and gender-based violence.   Our work at #UnicornIslandFund focuses on challenging these gender norms and de-weaponizing shame that upholds these harmful beliefs.   We believe every child deserves to grow up and live their dreams regardless of their gender.
