Marking the 4th year of the fight of Kaboedin people against a coal mining project in Omkoi, Thailand, GreenpeaceTH held activities throughout September as a part of ‘Chiangmai Coal or Home’ campaign, supported by local communities and civil societies. Kaboedin is an area in Omkoi district of Chiang Mai province, where 90% of the residents are indigenous people. If a coal project is built, it may dangerously affect them in general, putting their identity and livelihoods at risk. The project will also cause diffusion of toxic dust PM2.5 and PM10 in the atmosphere, severely affecting public health since Chiang Mai is already struggling with chronic air pollution for the last few years. With activities such as movie screening, photo exhibition, and placing stickers of a white elephant symbol named Faad-Foon (Coal Dust Fighter) all over tourist spots in Chiang Mai, the campaign spread awareness of Kaboedin's resistance while mobilising support and love to their people. 💚💪 #SaveOmkoi ...
