Eddie Palumbo was ready.
After suffering a dislocated finger in practice Thursday, the senior linebacker was forced to play the biggest game of the season in a clumsy soft cast.
He still managed to deliver when Stepinac needed a lift.
Palumbo more or less suffocated the ball, coming up with a third-quarter interception that finally gave the Crusaders some momentum.
Stepinac rode that wave of emotion Saturday, posting a 13-12 win over Iona Prep.
βI practiced catching the ball a little before the game, just mushing it between my hand and the mitt or whatever you call it,β said Palumbo, a Yale recruit. βThis rivalry is so much fun. After losing to them twice last year, including the playoffs, it was great to get back at them on their own field.β
