Looking to try your hand at mountaineering? You are in luck — Oregon has plenty of peaks. If you’re new to the sport, you might be wondering which mountain, or more specifically, which volcano, you should start with. Last year, vickieconnor climbed to the summit of Mount St. Helens. It was her first major mountaineering experience and she survived to tell the tale. She may have even enjoyed herself. 😆 So, this summer, she was looking to scratch that mountainteering itch once more. Note that attempting to climb South Sister is a physically and mentally challenging experience that should be attempted only by experienced hikers. The best time to climb South Sister is mid-late summer, some hikers are reporting a difficult time now due to snow/cold temps.
