🎉⚓ Happy 248th Birthday to the usnavy! ⚓🎉 The United States Navy (USN) is the United States Armed Forces’ naval warfare service branch and the largest, most powerful navy in the world. On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress authorized the first American naval force, beginning the long and prestigious heritage of the United States Navy. Today, the U.S. maintains 40 naval bases across the country, including the world’s largest Naval Station Norfolk, in Norfolk, Virginia. It was also on this day in 1975 when the USS Yorktown was dedicated as the first ship of our museum. The museum didn't open until January 1976, but we wanted to make the official dedication on the Navy's birthday. There were 2,000 people there to witness this momentous occasion.
