To me, it’s a time to share and honor my Filipino heritage to others who may not know of our rich history!
To me, it means my birthplace.
To me, it means hearing the stories of my mother, as a little girl, fleeing to the mountains during WWII
To me, it means having pride in Larry Itliong’s partnership with Cesar Chavez, to form the United Farm Workers ufwupdates ufwfoundation, and to live in the Tehachapi Mountains, when I was young, as my parents worked alongside Mr. Chavez
To me, it means honoring Vicki Manalo Graves, vickimanalofilm the first Asian American, of Filipina heritage, to win Olympic Gold in both the platform and springboard events in the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. Even though she wasn’t allowed in pools in the Bay Area for being Filipina. She was asked to conceal her ethnic identity to do so
