The cat & mouse drill was actually a soccer drill that I saw & knew could be used in lacrosse for speed & agility work, building technique & disguising some fun competitive conditioning. On the offensive side the goal is to try to match up with the person on the opposite side squaring them up just like you would before a dodge. As they come to tag you, you have to move like an attackman around the crease getting away. The key rule for the offensive player aka the mouse is that you always have to keep your stick on the outside of the circle. It will help you practice being quick about switching hands. Just like a football player would do when running with the ball towards the sideline. The ball is always switched to the the outside away from the defender. The defender aka the cat wants to follow the hips & change quick directions to try to throw the the mouse off and make the attack. In order to stop the drill the cat has to tag the mouse.
