Rick Hummel, Hall of Fame baseball writer from stltoday, passed away Saturday. He was known in baseball and in St. Louis as someone who was kind, generous and consistently professional. And someone who also had an encyclopedic knowledge of the cardinals and of baseball. In addition to his newspaper and broadcasting work he also co-authored the autobiographies of Tony LaRussa and Mike Shannon.
