tbt running school reunion . the giantrace brought together 9 alaskaair All-Stars, all creating space & opportunities for other women in sports. . i started with the all stars, ran some with my dad, & then found Ava, whose dad has been a season ticket holder in the same section as my dad for the Giants for many years. ava is a teenager & experiencing growing pains! she grew 5 inches last year. 5! we run together & also walk & talk about how puberty is a superpower & how wonderful it is that her body is telling her to slow down for a bit while her body develops into the strong woman she will become. this same thing happened to me many many years ago when my body changed during puberty. I growth I embraced when I was 16 allowed me to have an injury-free career full of hundred mile weeks leading into the Olympics. puberty should really be called our castle-building phase of life, with our body as the castle.
