It was beyond an honor to be invited to the 25th Matthew Shepard Foundation Gala in Denver, Colorado. Not only was it beautiful to see Chasten Buttigieg and @Billy Porter be honored but to be in the presence of Judy, Matthew’s mother, and receive what everyone calls the Judy hug was incredible. I’m the same exact age Matthew Shepard would’ve been. I was 21 (as he was) when he was brutally murdered. I had only been out for 3 years at this point and I remember many of us being afraid to leave campus for fear of something similar happening to us. A moment in my life I’ll never forget. A massive highlight for me was hearing Billy Porter not bypass what’s currently happening in our world. Touching on the past, present, and our future to be vigilant from. Didn’t hurt he graced us with vocals too which moved the whole room to complete silence paused in awe.
