Oh, you like Jupiter's bands? Name one song.⁣ ⁣ NASAWebb has discovered a new, never-before-seen feature in Jupiter’s atmosphere: a high-speed jet stream. Sitting above Jupiter’s equator above the main cloud decks, the jet stream spans more than 3,000 miles (4,800 kilometers) wide. The discovery of this jet is giving insights into how the layers of Jupiter’s famously turbulent atmosphere interact with each other, and how Webb is uniquely capable of tracking those features.⁣ ⁣ Combining recent NASAHubble and Webb observations allows scientists to measure how fast Jupiter’s winds change with altitude.
