The 1990 Hall of Fame Bowl holds a special place in the program's aesthetic history. The Tigers wore what has to be the largest bowl patches in team history on the jersey shoulders.⠀
⠀
Auburn faced Ohio State for the first time since 1917. The Buckeyes would pass on wearing a bowl patch of any sort, as was tradition at the time. Despite the lack of patch, their traditional white jerseys featured equally-as-large numbers.⠀
⠀
The Tigers wore custom patches that showcased the AU logo inside the Hall of Fame Bowl's logo. This would be the last time that Auburn wore bowl patches on the shoulders, which they did throughout the 1980s. Starting with the 1990 Peach Bowl, all patches would be worn on the now-customary chest position.⠀
⠀
Auburn would go on to win the game 31-14.⠀
