🏗️ In the 18th century, the Old Town was considered unfit for purpose. Overcrowded & unhygienic, the city’s upper classes envisioned a new standard of living. This led to the creation of the spacious Georgian New Town. While this transition occurred throughout most European cities during this period, nowhere else in the world is as dramatic or better-preserved than Edinburgh!

⚔️ A 60km long fortification in Scotland was started by Emperor Antonius Pius in 142 AD as a defense against the “barbarians” of the north. It constitutes the northwesternmost portion of the Roman Limes. The ‘Roman Limes’ represent the borderline of the Roman Empire at its greatest extent in the 2nd century AD.
