1800s BOAT UPDATE! During an FDOT (Florida Department of Transportation) construction project on the St. Augustine waterfront, a mid-to-late 1800s boat was uncovered. Before the start of construction, FDOT contracted with SEARCH, Inc. due to the historic nature of the area. search_archaeology The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum’s archaeologists, conservators, and curators are helping to support this project and our colleagues. At this point, our support is providing temporary, secure wet storage of the fragile boat while SEARCH, FDOT, and the City of St. Augustine decide the next steps.
