Chicago Marathon Race Recap, Part 6:
When things feel out of my control, I try to recenter myself. I try to let things around me fade away and find my zen.
How I do that: Mindfulness
1. I first put the blinders on and focus on me and me alone.
2. I concentrate on each breath. In and out, in and out.
3. I put emphasis on my arms, making sure they are in rhythm with one another.
4. I pay attention to each footstep. What it feels like and the ground beneath me.
5. I think about the wind on my face. The sensation of it. The coolness of it.
By focusing on these details of my body, I am able to tune out distractions.
It never fails to give me the mental clarity I need and once I finally find myself again, I am able to notice all the wonderful things happening around me.
During Chicago, I was made aware of all the fans and support that had showed out. I started to realize how many cheers were being directed my way.
