So many memories coming back to mind watching the new netflix documentary on the one and only Johnny Football. Kudos to Johnny for the authenticity and honesty he shows in this doc. Not sure how anyone could imagine, let alone function, when thrust into the spotlight in the manner and with the speed that he was. I was fortunate enough to work with JFF on multiple occasions covering everything from multiple portraits shoots to behind the scenes to on the field and I knew what I was witnessing was incredibly rare. It is wild to think back to my first time working with him where I photographed his first Sports Illustrated cover and his Time magazine cover (both images taken within a 20 minute span of the same shoot) which was also my first shoot after leaving my staff job and going fully independent.
