Today we look back at Art Car 6 to celebrate the birthday of BMW Art Car Artist Robert Rauschenberg 🎂
Rauschenberg marked his place as the sixth contributor to the Art Car Project in 1986 with his signature “Combine Painting” style - a collage technique integrating real objects and photographs from live media reports with abstract painting. For
#ArtCar6, Rauschenberg included paintings by Bronzino and Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres through skillfully manipulation using photographic techniques. The “hub caps” were also made using photographs of antique plates.
After studying art and working in theatre and costume design, Rauschenberg discovered his Combine Painting technique through experimentation with photographic design and abstract expressionism. He’s remembered today as a key figure for the American pop art movement.
