As a mindset and performance coach, I work with athletes to help them use their mind as their greatest asset.
Recently, I met with an individual who was losing her love for the game, dwelling on mistakes, and hemorrhaging confidence.
I asked her why she played soccer and this is what she said: "I am playing soccer because I want to be good at it and impress myself and others."
She sat quietly on the other side of the zoom screen. But inside, I could hear her screaming “I AM NOT GOOD ENOUGH”. Through her words and actions, this view of self was becoming so clear.
It broke my heart to hear this pain. To know her self-worth was dependent on an outcome and performance -- a game won, a goal scored.
At that moment, I wanted to reach through the screen to hug her. Instead, I told her “You are good enough. Here. Now. Exactly as you are.”
And I gave her homework. To say “I am good enough” three times before bed for a week straight. And to BELIEVE it. In her bones.
