"I relay for my little brother, Jude. When he was 11, he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his right femur. He underwent 18 rounds of chemo and a rotationplasty amputation. Luckily, it was localized and he finished treatment in December 2017, meaning that this December he will be 6 years cancer free. He is now a freshman at Auburn, playing on the wheelchair basketball and tennis teams. We were lucky enough to live 2 miles from one of the best children’s hospitals in the country and have a huge support system behind us. I relay for all the cancer kids who don’t have that, for anyone who has to fight alone or travel hours for treatment. I relay for all the friends we made along the way that lost their battles. I relay because no new osteosarcoma drugs have been developed in 45 years, despite there being only a 30% survival rate once it spreads to the lungs. I relay so one day no child will have to receive a terminal cancer diagnosis ever again."
