Ashley Tran of Boise, Idaho, joined the Idaho.Montana.RedCross as a blood donor ambassador when she was 15 years old. She greeted and checked in donors at her high school's blood drives, just as her interest in the medical field started to bloom.
βIt was one of the first volunteer opportunities," Ashley said. "I wanted to learn how blood donation worked."
After starting college at Boise State University, Ashley's time as a Red Crosser continued. She served as the Red Cross Club president for two years, growing the group to 60 members and organizing monthly blood drives on campus.
In addition to studying and serving her community, Ashley worked as an oncology nursing assistant, where she developed a deeper understanding of the need for blood.
