🚗 Amid concerns over a potential gas shortage, Chapel Hill residents rushed to the pumps on Tuesday morning to fill up their tanks. This comes after a cyberextortion attempt on the Colonial Pipeline, which transports gasoline and other fuel through 10 states between Texas and New Jersey.
This video is from a Circle K gas station right beside our office at University Place mall in downtown Chapel Hill. The majority of pumps were out of gas not long after.
Although Governor Roy Cooper declared a state of emergency, he said that residents shouldn't rush out to fill up on gas.
"I have talked today with federal officials including Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and we have a full court press to get the Colonial Pipeline back up and fully operating quickly," Cooper wrote via Twitter. "Report price gouging and please don’t rush to top off your tanks."
