In January 2005, Zoe Roth posed for a photo in front of a burning house in Mebane. Now, that photo has made her almost a half-millionaire.
The "Disaster Girl" meme went viral on the Internet, but Roth — now a UNC senior — and her family were never able to capitalize on her online fame in a big way. In February, Roth got an email that encouraged her to sell the meme as a non-fungible token (or NFT), with a potential profit of six figures.
@uncmediahub shared Roth's story and how a split-second photo in front of a burning house changed the course of her life.
