Gaza residents broke into U.N. warehouses, grabbing flour and other essential items in a sign they had reached “breaking point,” the United Nations Palestinian refugee agency said.
“Right now people are in survival mode. It’s about getting enough flour and it’s about getting enough water,” said Tom White, director of UNWRA Affairs in Gaza.
Aid to Gaza has been choked since Israel began bombarding the Palestinian enclave, killing 8,306 people, including 3,457 minors, according to medical authorities in Hamas-run Gaza.
Israel’s bombardment comes in response to an attack by Hamas on the country that killed 1,400 people, mostly civilians. Israeli forces are moving slowly in a ground offensive in Gaza in part to keep open the possibility of drawing Hamas militants to negotiate the release of more than 200 hostages.
