We went to the visitor center at Paradise in Mt Rainier National Park this weekend, and as you can see, the area has gotten it’s first layer of snow! The road from Longmire to Paradise was snow free until the last 2 miles or so. It’s what we call shoulder season up here, not summer anymore but it’s also not quite winter yet, but there’s some winter conditions to watch out for 👀
Here’s some tips and tricks I have for hiking & driving and some rules about Mt Rainier National Park:
🛻 Tomorrow is November 1st, Mt Rainier National Park requires all vehicles to carry tire chains from 11/1-5/1 when visiting the park!
🚧 The gate at Longmire opens at 9 am and closes at 3 pm, unless you’re already in the park, the downhill gate shuts at 4 pm. Meaning if you want to visit Paradise, get there before 3 pm!
❄️ The trails around Paradise are snow covered now, so pack accordingly! From learning my lesson in the past, I now always carry microspikes with me during shoulder season.
