Ricky Christmas experienced this firsthand when Red Cross volunteers from across the country worked together to provide him with essential medical and food assistance after Hurricane Idalia destroyed his home in Tallahassee, Florida.
Ricky is a military veteran with unique medical needs, and his condition was further aggravated when he fell while trying to evacuate his home.
When he arrived at the Red Cross shelter, volunteers on site worked with other volunteers, like Cathy Gordon from the RedCrossMO, who were supporting the response virtually to help address Ricky’s immediate needs.
“I was the behind-the-scene person to work on Ricky’s case after he returned to his home,” Cathy said. “My number one task was to find him, then to get his documents updated.”
