Did you know Baltimore had a body snatcher? We visited the historic Westminster Hall, the burying ground and catacombs to learn more about some of Baltimore’s past. Westminster Hall is famously known for the grave of Edgar Allan Poe. Jessica Williams, Director of Westminster Hall and Heather McKvleen, Coordinator tells us the story of how some Baltimore’s earliest inhabitants ended up at the University of Maryland Medical building. Back in the day it was illegal to do research on a cadaver. Because of this, surgeons would purchase bodies from people who illicitly harvested bodies.
