In honor of All Souls’ Day on Thursday, November 2, visit the ofrenda in St. Dominic Chapel to remember loved ones and members of the Providence College community who have died. A chanted Mass will be celebrated at 4:35 p.m. in St. Dominic Chapel, followed by a candlelight rosary in the Dominican Cemetery at 7 p.m.
In addition, Anthony Pasero-O’Malley, Ph.D., assistant professor of Spanish (@PC_wlc), and his students in beginning and intermediate Spanish courses also designed an ofrenda for Día de los Muertos as a class assignment. The students wrote lengthy letters en español about loved ones who have passed away, including memories and personal histories — requiring multiple verb tenses. The display cases, which can be found on the second floor of the Ruane Center for the Humanities between Ruane 205 and 206, include items that would be traditionally found on an ofrenda in Mexico: colorful skeletons, papel picado (tissue paper banners), candles, bread (pan de muerto), and more.
