Finally putting up the mantle for the Ranch fireplace. Hand carved Laos Deo on the face by artist Brad Greenwood. Originally, hand hewn by James Beckwourth. 1798 - 1867. Emancipated Slave, Blacksmith, Furrier/trapper, Scout, “Crow Nation Chief”. He is the guy Beckwourth Pass, the lowest Pass in the Sierra Nevada mountains is named after. Beckwourth trail was used by thousands during the Gold Rush. This beam comes from his home in California, which was was later was destroyed by fire. Brad Saved this beam and has held it for years. We are priveleged to have it as the mantle as a reminder of those who came before us and risked it all to do things that no one had done before.
