The Johnston Community School District Board of Education is now held by a progressive majority after Tuesday's election, shutting out the possibility of a board fully controlled by conservative candidates.
Jason Arnold, Jennifer Chamberland (incumbent), Soneeta Mangra-Dutcher (incumbent) and Lya Williams won as a slate of candidates who were backed by progressive groups and Democratic politicians.
According to unofficial results from the Polk County Auditor's Office, Williams received almost 15% of the vote. Arnold, Chamberland and Mangra-Dutcher each received about 14% of the vote.
