A slate of four candidates promoted by local progressives flipped the Ankeny Community School District Board of Education in the Nov. 7 election, empowering a majority that could take a critical view of new state laws impacting schools and throw more support behind district efforts to improve equity. Eight candidates ran for four open seats on the board with a four-year term, while two candidates ran for one seat with a two-year term following a vacancy. Katie Claeys (incumbent), Shelly Northway, Stephanie Gott and Amber Romans won the four seats with a four-year term. Claeys received 16% of the vote, Northway had 16%, Gott had 14% and Romans had 14%, according to unofficial Polk County results. Amy Tagliareni (incumbent) won the seat with a two-year term with 55% of the vote, defeating Amy Guidry, who received 45%, according to unofficial Polk County results.
