When we want to cycle pull overs we need to understand that although the movement is very similar to others like bar muscles, there’s a key element that is missing from the pull over:
Pushing away from the bar.
Essentially there is no “kip” in the pullover but rather a swing.
If we try to push away from the bar to create a hip flexion into hip extension, we’re going to miss.
Take a good look at this video (again and again) and you’ll notice that although we do find the extended position of the hip it is NOT paired with a shoulder flexion that we see in a kipping pull up or a bar muscle.
This is what can make this hard for certain athletes, we’ve got to UNLEARN a movement pattern that has been drilled for years!
