The team at James Thomas Interiors wowed us at the Lake Forest showhouse with their transformation of what was previously considered a wrapping room. Their space, aptly named The Retreat, was inspired by Lee Radziwill’s London apartment designed by Renzo Mongiardino, specifically the drawing room adorned in various patterned Indian prints. The Retreat was designed as a place where one could escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life to nap, read or enjoy a glass of wine. To reinterpret Mr. Mongiardino’s fabric scheme, James Thomas turned to Pierre Frey, one of their favorite fabric houses. Pierre Frey relaunched a handful of its archival Le Manach and Braquenie prints, which were used in The Retreat in a bold, new way. A comfy sofa was topped by an elaborate tester and that same fabric was repeated on the window treatments, which created a sense of consistency. The walls were sheathed in Pierre Frey’s Pommes de Pin wallcovering and the ceiling was artfully covered in Frey’s Alpilles...
