The Johnston Police Department has its first-ever K-9 officer, officials announced Wednesday. Buck is a 1 ½-year-old Belgian Malinois who will serve with his handler, johnstoniowapolice Officer Dylan Petermeier, who has been with the department since 2019. Buck is certified in traditional patrol dog skill sets such as apprehension, evidence recovery, building searches and tracking lost or runaway persons, Johnston spokesperson Janet Wilwerding said in a news release.
